What does a personal trainer do?
An ACE (American Council on Exercise) personal trainer, is qualified to provide any form of one on one instruction and have demonstrated their knowledge in nutrition, fitness assessment, exercise programming, and instructional spotting techniques. ACE personal trainers have successfully demonstrated knowledge as it applies to these areas: client assessment, program design, program implementation and adjustment, applied sciences and professional role.
How should I choose a Personal Trainer?
Your personal trainer should be certified by a nationally recognized certifying organization. It’s important that your trainer be able to accommodate your schedule and assist your special needs. Some people prefer a trainer of the same sex; others prefer the opposite sex. Your personal trainer should motivate you by positive, not negative reinforcement and they should be someone that you are comfortable with.
How much time should I spend with a Personal Trainer?
This will depend totally up to you! Most people who work with a personal trainer do so to achieve certain well-defined goals. This may include getting in shape for that special occasion, weight loss, muscle toning or even to improve your golf or tennis game. You may also find that you need someone to work with to bring you to the next level of exercise. This is especially important if you have reached a plateau or your routine no longer meets your current needs.
